For those of you who want to buy berries on a budget and also do not have a freezer, I got you. I have found myself in this predicament, in which the most economical berries are sold frozen, but that means I must use the whole bag immediately since I don’t have the storage facilities available to use them later. This is how I preserve my frozen berries for the fridge. This is not a true berry preserve recipe, as no sugar is added, so it will keep in the fridge for about a week. I imagine one can get through a bag of berries in a week, though.

Ingredients
- 1 bag frozen berries (I used blueberries)
- 2 Tbsp. chia seeds, ground
- 1 pinch salt
- ½ tsp. warm spice blend, like pumpkin pie spice
Method
- In a saucepan, add the frozen berries and place on stove over medium heat
- Once berries are melted, gently smash them with a fork to break up the berries and form a liquid mixture
- Add chia seeds, salt, and spices
- Stir to combine and remove from heat
- Let preserves sit covered so the seeds can absorb the liquid
- Pour preserves into a glass container of your choice
- Enjoy
