About

Hello!  My name is Kaitlyn, and this is my place to explore culture and life through food.

I was vegan for about 9 years, and in that time, I taught myself how to nourish myself through the creative process of cooking. I am no longer vegan, but I use the recipes and principles I learned as my foundation for new ways to enjoy food.

Though I love cooking, it is not my primary profession.  Therefore, a lot of the recipes I post are time and cost-effective whenever possible.  I use an Instant Pot pressure cooker and make a lot of stir-fries.  I also utilize leftovers so they can be frozen and reheated when needed.  Despite this, I am constantly pushing the boundaries of my frameworks for meals to create something new.

As an American based on the West Coast, I classify my cooking as New American because it takes inspiration from all over but still maintains the fundamental tenants that I think are necessary in food: nourishment through nutrition, flavor, and satiety.

I attempt to explore as many cuisines as I can with the restrictions of limited travel opportunities.  As a result, a lot of my culinary knowledge is book-learned instead of experiential.  If I ever get anything wrong, please let me know how to improve.  I endeavor to keep learning about and refining my cooking techniques and food from cultures other than my own.

I hope you find some benefit from my journey of food exploration.  Now onto the recipes!
