About Me

Hello!  My name is Kaitlyn, and this is my place to explore culture and life through food.

I have a passion and interest for cooking, cuisine, and food history. I grew up in the United States, but now I am living in Ireland, and I have traveled to a lot of new places this year, opening up my world to the possibilities for cooking techniques and flavors. I use foundational, ancient sciences like Ayurveda and locally-sourced ingredients to ground my cooking in nourishing traditions. I seek to build new ways of eating that are sustainable in the current world while supporting human nutrition, as has been practiced for generations.

Though I love cooking, it is not my profession.  Therefore, a lot of the recipes I post are time and cost-effective whenever possible.  I currently live in a tiny apartment without a full-sized fridge, so I cannot utilize a freezer or hefty kitchen gadgets. I primarily use my stovetop with three different-sized pots. From this, I can make quite a few things, as it turns out. I am always learning, and scarcity often breeds creativity. I am thankful for the limitations of my kitchen, as they allow me to stretch my imagination and use ingredients in new ways.

Besides cooking, I am a lover of outdoor spaces, reading, movement, and art. I practice yoga weightlifting, and I walk as much as I can. My favorite genres to read are science fiction, fantasy, and literary fiction, though I have been reading a bit more nonfiction lately, mainly critical feminist literature and food writing. When I am not working, reading, or walking, I am spending time with friends and loved ones. I savor the simplicity of my life, and I am deeply grateful for it every day.

I hope you find some benefit from my journey of exploration through food. Thank you for being here.
